Day 6, Yellowstone.

We carry a small clock. “Let us set the alarm for 6:00am.” It went off at 5:00, I forgot the last time we used it we were in a different time zone. “Oh well, another early start.” By the end of the day we were very glad of that.

We filled with gas last night, so off we go. We decide on caution, and head for the East Park entrance.

Cody has wide streets designed by Bill Cody to allow a team of six horses pulling a provision cart to turn around.

Past the Buffalo Bill Reservoir. It was a fast road to Yellowstone. When I did my research to find places to stay, there did not appear to be any, and apart from ranches, that is true.

We spot a sign and pull off for breakfast at Shoshone lodge. Is it only 7:00am. The temperature 32oF. The lodge is an attractive log cabin with a great room. The Proprietor chats with us and, like the bus driver, says we should take the NE entrance tomorrow. He tells us the lodge is listed on the internet, and would have provided closer accommodation to the park.

We enter the Park and again benefit from our Golden Age Pass. The Ranger tells us Dunraven Pass, part of the northern loop, is closed, as is Beartooth Pass, by snow. We made a good choice to use the east entrance.
