Day 5, Big Horn Mountains.

Big Horn Mtns. Big Horn Mountains.

Leaving Buffalo we headed west on I90 towards Cody.  A beautiful day with puffy clouds.  At Ranchester we took state 14 across the Big Horn Mountains.  We crossed the valley floor. “Look Jan, snow on those peaks.”

We began to climb. At first it was nothing unusual; the road got steeper and began to twist. The turns got sharper. We stopped often for pictures. The turns became hairpin bends, recommended speed 25mph. I was now stopping to let more ambitious drivers pass. Finally we reached the pass at 9750ft and stopped at a Visitor Center. Temperature 47oF, but with strong sunlight we did not feel cold. Big Horn Road
Lupins “Those blue flowers look like wild Lupins.” They were, carpets of them.
